During the Japanese Colonial Period, Geothermal Valley was designated as one of the Taiwan 8 Scenes and 12 Fames for the Sulfur Jade Mist. When the sunrises, beautiful reflections of the light shoots out when the sun shines on the steam from the hot spring. The hot spring in Geothermal Valley contains acid sulfur with the temperature up to 75 Celcius, the hottest spring in Datun Mountain Range. It presents a jade like color water commonly called Green Sulfur Spring, and it is the source of the hot springs in Beitou. The rocks in the streams contains an unique mineral element RA, name Beitou Stone, it is the only one out of thousands of mineral stone named by a place in Taiwan. Currently, it can only be found in Beitou, Taiwan and Tamagawa, Japan.
